IF you have been waiting for a good reason to go for a holiday in Lundu, wait no longer as the popular UnionYes Retreat in Siar has undergone a major upgrade with the inclusion of a spa. Slightly more than RM1mil has been spent to build the Spa House, a luxurious three-bedroom Beach House and a Tree Top Terrace that offers stunning views of the South China Sea. The beach house comes with its own cooking and dining facilities, a BBQ area, a private deck and a jacuzzi. It can accommodate up to 15 people, which is perfect for you and your extended family as well as for corporate outings. And at the spa, guests can unwind with traditional massages by highly trained visually impaired masseurs.

The Spa House has its own 16-person spa pool — bringing the total number of pools at the retreat to three.

Located more than 80km from here, the retreat first opened its doors to the public in 2006.

Owned and operated by the Sarawak Bank Employees Union, it serves as a resource centre for its members and at the same time, complements the state government’s efforts to promote Lundu as a holiday destination.

Besides the new facilities, the retreat offers a perfect mix of chalet, deluxe and superior rooms, two-bedroom Penthouse Suites, and 10-bed hostels.

All rooms feature individually controlled air-conditioning, ensuite bathrooms and satellite television. The tastefully designed chalet rooms even have a romantic outdoor shower.

The retreat also has four meeting and function rooms fully equipped for a wide range of conferences, meetings, seminars and banquets for up to 200 guests.

As for food, the resort’s Rafflesia Cafe serves local and western cuisines. Enjoy the exciting BBQ buffet by the Poolside Pavilion or have breakfast right by the beach at the Tree Top Terrace.

There is also the Lobby Bar to catch the latest sports action or live band or sing to your heart’s content at the karaoke or the private KTV room.

The beachfront, with its soft clean sand, offers fun-filled activities for everyone.

And if you do plan a holiday at the retreat, allocate some time to visit the Gunung Gading National Park, which is home to the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia. The park is only a 10-minute drive from the retreat.

The renowned Talang Talang Island — a protected sanctuary where turtles come ashore to lay eggs — is also within reach.
