Duchy of Bukovina in 1849, later merging with Romania on November 15/28 1918, on June 28, 1940, following the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, with its northern part Bessarabia and Herta, to be occupied by the USSR . In 1991, after the collapse of the USSR, Northern Bucovina and Herta become part of Ukraine (Chernivtsi region).
