The man believed to have kidnapped a seven-year-old and forced him into begging was nabbed by the public near the Muhammadi Mosque here this morning.
The 22-year-old suspect from Terengganu was caught at around 10.20am.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the man was currently in the custody of police who would obtain a remand order for him tomorrow morning.
Mazlan added the case would be investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for abduction.
“Police will conduct further investigations to determine whether the man is involved in any syndicate.
“Initial investigations by police revealed the possibility that he acted alone. However, the probe will continue and that’s why we need a remand order for further investigations,” he said at a press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters.
Mazlan said at the time of the arrest there were no other victims with the suspect, but since it was early in the morning, police had not discounted the possibility that there could have been others involved.
He said police also believed that the suspect found the victim at the mosque before kidnapping him.
“Police are now investigating where he used to stay, although initial investigations suggest he might be a vagrant.
“We also found there is no information on him including any identification card,” Mazlan said.
He assured police would look at the case from all angles, including claims that the suspect held other victims and the possibility that he was part of a syndicate using children as beggars. - The Rakyat Post
